Pocket PC V35: Unable to locate and install USB Driver?


This document provides the troubleshooting information for locating and installing USB driver for Pocket PC V35.

V35 USB Troubleshooting Tips:

ISSUE: Windows is unable to locate and install the USB Driver for the Pocket PC V35 during the "Get Connected" phase of Microsoft ActiveSync Setup.

There are three possible solutions to the issue above. It's necessary to follow the solutions in the order that you see. You can proceed to the next provided solution if the previous one did not solve the above issue.

Solution 1: Please complete the following steps:

  1. Disconnect your Pocket PC V35 from the USB cable or cradle.
  2. Soft Reset your Pocket PC V35 (Unscrew the tip of your stylus. Use the tip to press the reset button on the left side and below the record button of your Pocket PC V35).
  3. Reconnect your Pocket PC V35 to the USB cable or cradle.

Solution 2: Please complete the following steps:

  1. Use a USB cable or cradle to connect your Pocket PC V35 to your Computer.
  2. Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and right click Unknown Device or USB device and click Uninstall. If you do not have an Unknown Device or USB device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, proceed to step #4.
  4. Expand Other Devices and right click on Unknown device or USB device and click Uninstall. If you do not have listings called Other Device or if Unknown Device or USB Device is not under Other Devices, proceed to step #5.
  5. Expand Windows CE USB Device and Right-click on USB Device and click Uninstall. If you do not have a listing called Windows CE USB Device proceed to step #6.



  6. For Windows 98, ME, and XP: Copy wceusbsh.inf, wceusbsh.cat and acmeusbsh.inf from the V35 Companion CD to C:\Windows\inf

    For Windows 2000: Copy wceusbsh.inf, wceusbsh.cat and acmeusbsh.inf from the V35 Companion CD to C:\Winnt\inf
  7. For Windows 98, ME, and XP: Copy wceusbsh.sys from the V35 Companion CD to C:\Windows\system32\drivers

    For Windows 2000: Copy wceusbsh.sys from the V35 Companion CD to C:\Winnt\system32\drivers
  8. Disconnect your Pocket PC V35 from the USB cable or cradle and soft reset it.
  9. Restart your computer.
  10. After Windows is loaded, use the USB cable or cradle to connect your Pocket PC V35 to your computer.
  11. Window will bring up the hardware wizard. If not, go to Device Manager and look for the USB Device then right click and select Update Driver.
  12. Select install from a list or specific location then click Next Select include this location in the search
  13. Click the Browse button to point to the V35 Companion CD then click OK
  14. Click Next and follow the rest of the prompts while it finishes loading.

SOLUTION 3: Please complete the following steps

  1. Click here to download V35_uninstall.exe
  2. Disconnect the Pocket PC V35 from the USB cable or cradle
  3. Run V35_Uninstall program and follow the on-screen instructions to automatically uninstall ActiveSync and USB driver.
  4. Reset your Pocket PC V35 and restart your computer.
  5. Reinstall Microsoft ActiveSync and USB driver by following the procedure in V35 User Guide for Installing Microsoft ActiveSync.

NOTE: Do NOT use an USB cable or cradle to connect your Pocket PC V35 to your computer until instructed to do so.
